DORI is a useful design concept for matching image detail to the security objective. It helps distinguish between simply detecting activity and capturing enough detail to identify a person.
Detection and observation
Detection answers whether something is happening in the scene. Observation gives more context about what a person is doing or how an event is unfolding.
Recognition and identification
Recognition aims to determine whether a person is familiar, while identification requires enough detail to establish who the person is. Each goal needs different pixel density and camera placement.
Use the objective to drive placement
Instead of expecting one camera to do everything, combine overview cameras with tighter views at important points such as entrances, counters or gates.
