Start with the area, not the camera
A good CCTV plan begins by identifying entrances, vulnerable zones, lighting conditions and the level of detail you need. Camera specifications only make sense after the coverage requirement is clear.
Choose resolution and lens carefully
Higher resolution can provide more detail, but lens choice and camera position matter just as much. A wide overview and an identification shot usually require different placements.
Plan recording and remote access
Decide how many days of footage you need, who should be able to view the system remotely, and how the recorder will be protected. Storage, bandwidth and user permissions should be part of the initial design.
Think beyond day one
Select a system with room for additional cameras, improved analytics and integration with other security devices. A scalable design avoids unnecessary replacement later.
